Someday, procuring commercial insurance will be effortless and enjoyable, thanks to the efforts of software developers. The problem is, unlike other industries experiencing tremendous innovation, in commercial insurance software developers are blocked. Why? Barriers include access to carriers, unclear documentation, and the many, many integrations required to overcome fragmentation of appetite. These hurdles drive project costs too high, and make timelines too slow.
Briza’s mission is to connect insurance to the world. We do this by offering a “write once, access many” platform that software developers can use to overcome barriers and focus on building delightful user experiences.
After dinner with an old friend, Ben Munro — an insurance executive with 20 years experience and based in Bermuda — decided to start a company. Early in his journey he needed to buy an insurance policy. It took 8 weeks, he had to fill out 6 forms, and all of that required 15 interactions with his broker. All for a policy that cost under $1000 and generated only $150 in commission.
It was then Ben knew the business problem he needed to solve: modernizing the insurance industry. And that old friend? Mike McDerment, founder and CEO of FreshBooks.
Together, Ben and Mike founded Briza in 2016. Today, partners represent billions of dollars in premium.
